PhotoSpots Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 8, 2026

PhotoSpots is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains what data the app and this website use and why.

Data You Create

All photo spots, lists, notes, and photos you add are stored on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled on your device, this data is also synced privately to your iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. This data is yours. It is not shared with third parties, and the developer does not have access to your private iCloud data.

Location

PhotoSpots requests access to your device's location only to show your current position on the map, calculate distances to saved spots, and support location-based features such as saving a spot from the widget. Your live device location is not sold, shared with third parties, or used for analytics.

Photos and Camera

PhotoSpots can access your photo library and camera in two contexts: (1) when you choose to attach reference photos to a spot for planning, and (2) when you use the reference camera feature to preview real-world framing with focal length simulation and composition grids. Attached photos and reference metadata (camera, lens, crop, time, location) are stored locally and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your private iCloud data. They are not uploaded to any server outside of Apple's infrastructure.

Notifications

PhotoSpots requests notification permission only to confirm when a location is successfully saved from the home screen widget. Notification content is generated on-device and is not sent to the developer or any third party.

In-App Purchases

Tips and any in-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. The developer does not collect or store payment information.

Analytics and Tracking

PhotoSpots does not use third-party analytics SDKs, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not sell your data.

Third-Party Services

PhotoSpots relies on Apple services such as iCloud/CloudKit, Photos, Maps URL handling, and StoreKit to provide core functionality. No third-party advertising or analytics frameworks are included in the app.

Website and Forms

This website is a static site. The contact and feature request forms open an email draft in your email app instead of submitting data to a PhotoSpots server. Any information you choose to send by email is used only to respond to your message, provide support, or consider feedback.

Open Source License

The PhotoSpots source code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. The license covers source code use and distribution; it does not change the privacy practices described above.
